Alllllriiights.....Long ass post.
Ubuntu OSX 1.0 is a UNIX based open source operating system based on the linux kernel. The host OS is ubuntu if you havent figured that out already and i have made seemingly endless modifications to it.
- The whole os is designed from the ground up to look identical to Mac Osx 10.6.
- The dock and the icon are identical and the dock has many features i will post below momentarily.
- The "osx Finder" is the bar at the top of your screen, i know its not identical but it functions almost exactly as a real mac finder does except for the fact you can use it to launch applications.
- the system is preloaded with the following apps
- Preload- caches apps to make them load faster
- Google Cromium ( open sourced version of chrome) [note it should have a OSX theme already applied but i faced restrictions on the things i can do. However it should be there]
- Evolution Mail- Recieve and send emails straight from your desktop.
- Empathy Internet messaging- can be configured to use IM from sites like facebook
- Cheese webcam booth- take pics or videos with your webcam
- Image viewer- self explanitory
- Take a screenshot-once again self explanitory (key shortcut is pring screen)
- Piviti Video editor- edit and cut video clips
- Movie Player- dont even ask
- DeVeDe DVD/CD Video Creator-burn a video to a dvd and play it in a regular dvd player
- Contacts- a simple adress book
- GIMP- an alternative to Photoshop
- Dates- aka a calendar! DUH!
- Text editor- modify txt files
- Calculator-....self explanitory
- Terminal- this is a command prompt similart to the DOS command prompt in windows, I reccomend you dont use it unless you know what you are doing as you can mess stuff up if you abuse it
- Dictionary- YAAAY never need to know what that means again right? Right!
- Sound Recorder- Record voice memos or simple sound ( requires a mic)
- Control Center- Manage all the systems settings
- Dashboard- Buggy, dont use
- Open office- the free alternative to MS office thats even compatitble with MS office files
- Komposer- a web design software
- Transmission- a torrent downloader
- CSSed editior- edit or create CSS ( Cascading stye sheets)
- Brasero Disk burner- burn iso's or other files to a disk
- Rythmbox- this is your "iTunes or windows media player" Its a music and radio media center that can connect to the ubuntu one store
- Docky- the best dock no mony can buy!
- Ok..now back to the dock!
- It has stacks just like OSX! Stacks are folders that open within the dock without having to open the file browser, they even can be scrolled!
- Looks IDENTICAL to the OSX dock, note if you want to remove the docky icon do this..
- Type ALT+F and run gconf-editor
- Navigate to apps, docky-2 / Docky / items and click on Docky Item, uncheck the box labeled (show docky item)
- Icons relect on the dock and can be rearranged or added to your satisfaction, just simply drag an icon, or foler to the dock! or drag it away to remove it!
- Docky shows blue and red indicator lights below an app when its running, one light = one open window
- When you minimise a window it gets vacuumed into the dock just like in OSX! Identical animation.
- Hover your mouse over a minimized app and you can roll the mouse wheel to maximize, you can also simply click the icon to either min or max it.
- And back to the Finder!
- It does not say finder as it does in the real mac, but it mimics its behavior almost perfectly, on most programs things such as (file, edit, view, history etc) will be at the top of the screen where the finder is just like in OSX
- What? YOu have Expose' ???? HELL YES I DO
- open Control center, click compiz config settings manager and go to expose'
- You can enable it with whatever cmd you want. BUT if you take your mouse and move it to the bottom right corner of the screen it will toggle expose' !
- You also have multiple desktops just like in OSX, simply press CTRL+ALT and press the arrow keys to swap desktops, alternatively you can drag a window into another workspace.
- Hope you love it! Coment in the forums if you see any problems or bugs!!!!!!!!
Oops!
Oops, you forgot something.
